MARKETING/PUBLIC RELATIONS

North American Savings Bank

Hired as Digital Marketing Coordinator at North American Savings Bank in September of 2015. I created unique content -- video, graphic design, blog -- for the newly-remastered NASB.com website with an emphasis on SEO. Our small team (5) nearly doubled average monthly lead counts in a single year and helped the company earn, on average, $110 million per month in closed home mortgage loans.

Mizzou Athletics

From fall 2012 to spring 2014, I worked with the University of Missouri Department of Athletics Media Relations team. My job would vary for each sporting event, but usually consisted of stat-tracking, transcribing post-game interviews and writing features on senior athletes.

Digital Talent Agency

Operting in conjunction with The Agency Post, the Digital Talent Agency was my first paying "journalism" job. I wrote articles for company executives promoting an idea or plan they wanted to convey. Essentially, I operated as the outsourced "talent" for CEOs and company president's looking to share their knowledge.

REPORTING

Topps BUNT & Topps HUDDLE

For more than a year, I covered the NL West (MLB) and AFC West (NFL) divisions for Topps' iPhone and iPad apps. I published 623 articles on BUNT for more than 1,000,000 active daily users and helped the app earn the top position in Apple's App Store.

Mobile Video DIY Project

A journalism school partner and myself -- with guidance from two professors -- created a Do-It-Yourself series on YouTube exploring mobile journalism techniques. Our team published eight videos after 16 weeks of constant research, scripting, recording, and editing. Our project was supported by the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism. Link to final product:

Vox Magazine

Wrote an enterprise story about an annual film festival in Columbia, the True/False Film Festival. Tried to take an alternative view by looking at the festival's overall theme of "Time." Known for its avant-garde approach and self-adopted role as an indie player in a mainstream wave of filmmaking, I was able to interview a couple of key festival players. I wanted to explore how the organizers planned to incorporate various scientific and philosophical interpretations of time. Below is the much-abridged final cut.

KOMU TV (photojournalism)

I had the opportunity to explore my photojournalism itch for Columbia's NBC and journalism school affiliate, KOMU. I travelled with broadcast students to their stories, took photos, wrote AP-style captions and edited pictures for publication on the station's Flickr page.

KBIA-FM

Though my time working in the station was limited to six weeks during a semester multimedia reporting class, I was able to publish two stories for mid-Missouri's NPR affiliate.

The Maneater

I worked on and published only one article for this student paper. It's significance cannot be understated, as it was my first clipping before I began my freshman year in 2010. This was my first serious introducution to Missouri journalism.

Columbia Missourian

My multimedia contribution came from a collaboration with fellow convergence students. The story featured a small diner, "Maa's Pies," located in Ashland, Mo. and highlighted realities of racial tension for two black small-business owners in a dilapidated rural Missouri town.

EDITING

The Agency Post

This publication is geared toward marketing executives looking to help spread the value of their knowledge. As an intern, I was tasked with copy-editing, uploading final drafts to The Agency's CMS and utlitizing SEO techniques; tagging keywords and abbreviating headlines.

KBIA-FM Sports Extra

Similar to my time with the reporting aspect, I spent ten weeks during a semester-long editing course in the KBIA Sports Extra newsroom. I acted as the managing editor over reporters covering various sports beats at the University of Missouri. I was also tasked with uploading their multimedia content to KBIA Sports Extra's website.

MISCELLANEOUS

ESPN, FOX Sports, Time Warner Sports - Broadcast Production

During my time with Mizzou Media Relations, I was fortunate to assist in part-time production work with ESPN and Time Warner Sports. My rolls included basic utility assistance or 'runner' work. This afforded me the chance to witness the ins-and-outs of running a live broadcast on the world's biggest sports television network.

Server, Bravo Cucina Italiana

For five years, I've been fortunate to hold a job at a high-end Italian restaurant located north of the Missouri river in Kansas City. I began as a food runner, but was promoted to full-time server and allowed the opportunity to go to school in Columbia and return during breaks. While certainly not a job in journalism or marketing, I learned how to handle multiple assignments at a time and better manage my time and energy.

My name is Ian Arnold. I'm a graduate from the world-renowned Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri. My emphasis was in convergence media (also known as multimedia).

The university provided hands-on learning and afforded me the opportunity to work with professional media outlets at the same time. Using the "Missouri Method," a tried-and-true way of learning journalism, I bettered my knowledge and experience by being an active participant rather than a passive observer. I now feel confident in my versatility to tell stories through any medium (print, digital, broadcast, radio, social media, etc.).
